I'm sorting through the huge amount of pictures of owls I've taken so far...
Today's topic is "Mozuuku makes his Suemawasi debut"!
It's been five years ago!
............ What is "Suemawasi"?
I'm sure some of you are wondering, so I'll just give you a brief introduction to this decision.
Suemawasi" is a training method used by birds of prey.
The owl is perched on the arm of a special glove.
The lead is also tied to a special metal fitting attached to the glove to prevent it from getting lost (flying away outside).
When you're ready, just go outside and walk around!
It's easy to say, but you have to be very careful σ(^_^;)
By the way, before Suemawasi training, you also need to get used to the glove and to ride on the arm stably.
This training is done after the owls have built up their muscle strength and trust in each other.
Please don't start with Suemawasi right away.
First of all, owls are sensitive animals that often stop eating food due to changes in their environment.
So if you take them out for hours at a time, the stress may cause them to get sick or worse. ......
Get used to it little by little, little by little.
Don't be in a hurry!
Birds of prey are quite unique as pets, so if you don't know something, you can ask a senior owl owner or a professional falconer! I think that is the best way for both humans and owls.
But why go to such lengths?
In fact, the Suemawasi training often results in a calmer owl.
It's just that children who are restless or who tend to act out may get injured.
To train or not to train is a difficult thing to do, isn't it?
There is also the idea that going outside is dangerous in the first place, and especially depending on the season, you have to think about the time of day you take them out and how long you take them .......
In the middle of summer and winter, it's not a good idea.
At Owl Village, we have regular training.
This time, Mozuku will make her debut in the "Suemawasi" training.
For more on Mozuku's Suemawasi training, please look forward to Part 2, which will be uploaded later!
To give you a bit of a spoiler, Mozuku was still Mozuku when she went outside (lol).
